Ever since I started airsofting Ive wanted to get an AKS-74, Mainly because I think they look super sexy, and partially because I needed one for my Russian kit. Recently, I got a little extra cash and decided I would start looking at the offerings, I knew Kalash was a good option, CYMA has some pretty good AK's as well, but I had never seen or heard about JG's new line of EBB AK74's. I decided to do a little research and I found to my surprise that they have many features of VFC AK's other clones neglected to incorperate in their product(due to cost?) that I liked. The features I really wanted were full metal, wood(preferably) and a price under $200. The JG line of EBB AK74's fit the bill with full steel construction, CED coating, Real Wood, and a folding stock, all for $165 after shipping and GIBEST coupon code at ASGI.
As soon as the box arrived I rushed downstairs and found a boring brown paper wraped box, and Instantly began to tear it open to find a very nice looking box:
On the box was the regular warnings, and little engrish, and to my surprise, a decent list of specs too!
(on a side note, the 7mm bushings are actually 7mm bearings!)
I threw open the top and found not cheap styrofoam, but a nice packing material that held the AK in a soft, but secure embrace(YAY not picking off the little white balls!).
Under the top layer of packing was the ASGI test sheet which recorded an average FPS of 410 with .20s, right about right for a field gun, and perfect once the spring cools down.
I threw the manual and test sheet aside and pulled my AK out to get a better look at it. My fist thought was, "Wow, this thing has a nice heft to it!".
As I looked over the AK, I found to my surprise that the JG AK's have serial numbers like the Kalash line of AK's! I don't know if they are unique to each gun( I doubt it personally) but its still a nice touch.
The gun also has a side rail mount, and even tough it comes in a nasty plastic orange flash hider, it has a full metal black one in the box, which I immediately put on.
The gun comes with a fairly decent 8.4v 1100mAh stick battery, but I ordered an 11.1v 1200mAh tenergy lipo as a precaution, turns out, an 11.1 is a wee bit of overkill(as you'll see later)
after about 30 minutes on my smart charger, the 8.4 was charged, and I decided to put a few rounds through her to see how she performed, heres a clip of the 8.4v and blowback action:
shortly there after, I realized while inserting the battery, I had inadvertantly slipped the hopup retention clip off while pushing the fuse down into its place thereby giving me an excuse to check out the blowback and its function!
( I had promissed myself to leave the GB alone on this gun so no internals review, yet... )
hopup exposed
the hopup is plastic, but its works extremely well in my experiance so far, its actually one of the nicer AK hopups I have ever used.
While I was fixing the hopup, I figured I would figure out how to fit the 11.1 lipo, as the dust cover was too small, and it seemed the gas tube was molded to a round stick type battery. I found the only way I could get it to fit and retain the EBB(mostly for show, it will probably come off sooner or later) was to remove the gas tube all together, and fit it directly under the wood foregrip. heres a guide on how to take the foregrip down(for those who don't already know.
As soon as I had finished that, and charged up the 11.1(as best as my cheap and dieing charger would) I took it out for a test run, and was truly shocked by the ROF and trigger response with it fully charged, heres a sample clip of the same test, but with the battey at closer to 1/2 charged
Seeing as I ran out of BB's(it came with 1200 black pforce BB's, but they are less than I had hoped for in term of accuracy and visibility) there wont be an accuracy test here yet, but I have some new .25s on the way, so expect one up here soon.
MORE TO COME!
